- Candle holder - cover outside with an old greeting card, tissue paper, glitter, or translucent paint
- Crafts organizer - use for holding small items, like grommets, letters, tags, stickers, etc. Can even be mounted onto a board (screw lids into a shelf)
- Recipe ingredients holder (for gift) - Write instructions on a card and attach to jar. Add necessary ingredients to inside of jar. Great for hot chocolate, tea, soup, or cookies.
- Snow globe - Use egg shells for the snow, and seal the lid to the jar with clay. Props inside can be little toys (those store machine trinkets would work great here).
- Candy container - Decorate according to a holiday. Fill with jelly beans, peppermints, nuts, etc.
- Paper weight - Fill with colored sand or other loose material (nuts for a carpenter's desk, for example).
- Flower garden - Start some flowers / herbs / vegetables in jars and give to mom or dad for Mother's Day / Father's Day.
